Student Exchange with Hino, Japan March 22, 2027, through April 2, 2027
The Redlands Sister Cities Association invites Redlands Unified students to apply for our longstanding student exchange program with Hino, Japan, a treasured partnership that has continued for more than 50 years. This program offers students the unique opportunity to experience Japanese culture firsthand through a 12-day exchange during Redlands Unified School District’s spring break. Participants will stay with welcoming host families, take part in local cultural activities, and visit historic landmarks throughout Japan. The tentative travel dates are March 22, 2027, through April 2, 2027, during RUSD spring break. The program is open to students ages 14–19 in 2027 who are enrolled in Redlands schools at the time of travel. The approximate cost per student is $2,400–$2,800, which includes airfare, rail transportation, and other travel expenses. Participants and their families are responsible for these costs, but RSCA supports students in organizing fundraising opportunities to help offset expenses. To apply, students must submit a written personal statement and participate in an interview. Selected students will also attend orientation meetings and take part in fundraising efforts before the trip. Following the exchange, students are expected to host a student from Hino during their visit to Redlands in late July or early August 2027. Students will also help recruit the next group of participants for the following exchange. This is a meaningful opportunity to broaden your perspective, build international friendships, and be part of a decades-long Redlands tradition. Applications are due August 28. Interviews will be scheduled during the first week of September. Please email [email protected] with any questions.
